Our clients are doing big things in and around Detroit! Each month we will be highlighting one client and their impact on the community....
Sarah puts to practice the core principles we try to encourage with our clients including a healthy work/life balance, consistency with exercise, and the importance of overall health as a lifestyle. Being a nurse through Covid has added more stress into an already high stress job, but the commitment to keeping herself as healthy as possible has not wavered. Here is a bit more about her story....
"I have been a nurse for over 10 years, most of which have been in Labor & Delivery. I am currently a Labor & Delivery nurse at one of the large hospitals in downtown Detroit. I feel passionate about women’s and children’s health, love serving my community and neighbors, and enjoy my work in healthcare.
I started working out with Robert back when I was in nursing school and have been working out with him (and Sean) ever since. My regular strength training with PT in the D has kept me accountable and strong, so that I can best help my patients and endure long hours of physical demands on my feet while at work. Because of the strength I’ve gained, I have better body mechanics at work. I need this for pushing stretchers quickly in an emergency, holding patients as they get up to the bathroom still numb after anesthesia, and maneuvering bodies into positions more conducive to a quick delivery, among other things.
My workouts have helped build my endurance, which has also helped me stay strong throughout emotionally and physically taxing 12-hour shifts, of which I sometimes do multiple shifts a few days in a row. During busy shifts, with little time to sit and eat, it’s easy to fall into the habit of eating junk food or take-out hospital food. Because of my workouts, I have found that I am more accountable to myself to eat better and spend the time before work to prepare food so that I can stay on track.
When I’m not working, I am spending time with my two-year-old daughter, catching up on chores and errands, walking the dog, and trying to squeeze in a workout or two wherever I can. I also rely on my workouts to keep me sane and get out some tension built up from work and everyday life. PT in the D helps keep me healthy with a sound mind and body, so that I can show up and be my best self to my patients and my family!"
