2023 is your year! This year we will be recognizing and celebrating our client achievements each month through the various health and fitness journeys. Successes in health and fitness may look different for each person out there. We hope hearing about what others are going through, persevering with many of the same ups and downs, will be encouraging and motivating to stay positive.
David has been a loyal supporter of PT in the D since day 1 and was just crowned champion of our 2023 Weight Loss Challenge. It felt only right to let him tell his story about what he did to drop an amazing 20 lbs in 8 weeks! Finding a well-rounded & balanced approach to hit his goal is a classic example that don't have to do anything fancy to be successful. The improvement of nutritious eating, exercise, sleep quality, and general movement is a winning approach. Here is how he did it in his own words....
"I wish I could say I found a trick or an easy way to win the weight loss contest. But honestly, I achieved my goal (205 -> 185 lbs. in eight weeks) by following the classical approach, which included several important lifestyle changes. Firstly, I prioritized good quality sleep, which allowed my body to recover and rejuvenate, and helped regulate my hormones.
Secondly, I focused on eating smaller portions of nutritious foods, which helped control my calorie intake while still providing necessary nutrients. My go-to foods were lean proteins (oatmeal, eggs, turkey), vegetables (peas, green beans, potatoes) and fresh fruits (pineapples and bananas). I’m retired so there was no stress eating. I don’t know how I avoided pizza and beer but i did!
Thirdly, I made sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, which helped flush out toxins and prevented overeating. I drank tap water filtered with a Pūr pitcher.
Fourthly, I didn’t miss any of my twice-weekly intense weight training workouts with Sean. I also incorporated regular walking into my routine (three+ miles at least three times a week). It was cold and lonely on the Riverwalk/Dequindre Cut but I had podcasts and audiobooks. All this exercise has made me stronger and thinner, and my new goal is to become a runner again.
Whenever I got discouraged, I would think about that $500 prize and soldier on."
